Immediately the boy’s father cried out and said,
“I do believe; help my unbelief.”
We’ve all got a story.
And, they’re all worth telling.
But the Author is the only One who knows the ending.
I wrote a song years ago that I call “Red Ink”.
In the first verse, it states:
“You took Your pen and dipped it in the red ink of the cross, and all at once my story came to life. And, I recognized redemption in all the parts I thought were lost. The prose is always beautiful You write.”
My name is Randy Skiles, and the first chapters of my story told a tale of a childhood with security, love, and care.
But my story turned to selfishness, vanity, and hidden confusion as I began to scribble on my own page.
Thankfully, in 1981 God’s red ink was applied to my story.
Redemption!
Before this chapter, I couldn’t see how the story would be redeemed.
Mistakes, lies, self-centeredness, drifting into sin.
People left hurt in my wake, and those that I’d taken advantage of with little regard to the consequences.
But God has a way of taking all the prior mess, and making it into a message of renewal and purpose.
Even using our mistakes to help us learn to forgive, sympathize with those who have wandered a similar path, and point others toward the Author of Faith.
My hope is that through my songs and words God is glorified.
And other’s books are opened to their own page where the red ink of redemption changes the plot.
I’m finding out that service to Jesus is a reward.
As we offer this redeemed life to the Redeemer, He uses these once wandering souls to tell His story of hope to other wandering souls.
